Lord Teach Us to Pray(5 CDs)
Understanding Jesus’ Model for Communing With God

By
Dr. David Harrell

(Matthew 6: 5-15)

  • Part 1 - This exposition introduces Jesus’ teaching on prayer by discussing three crucial aspects of prayer, namely, how not to pray, the attitude of prayer and Jesus’ model for prayer—a stark contrast to the ritualistic, mechanical, repetitious and ostentatious prayers of the hypocrite.

  • Part 2 – This exposition examines the first three categories petitions that address God’s glory, namely, His name, His Kingdom and His will. Special consideration is given to the three distinct components of God’s will.

  • Part 3 – This exposition examines the first of three categories of petitions found in the second section of Jesus’ model for prayer that addresses man’s need, namely, our dependence upon God. Special consideration is given to the importance of our requests being humble, confident and contented.

  • Part 4 – After discussing three factors that produce praying people, this exposition unveils the three concepts surrounding Jesus’ command for us to ask forgiveness of our debts, namely, our need for daily pardon, our provision for daily pardon and the precondition for daily pardon.

  • Part 5 – This exposition unpacks the final petition concerning the crucial and often neglected issue of asking the Lord to “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” Special consideration is given to the four stage progression of sin revealed in James 1:13-17, namely, temptation, lust, the sinful act and death.
